The Punishment: when you break the build…

The Onebip Tech Team is formed by more than 10 developers. When you try to deliver as much as you can, you have to follow practices such as Continuous Integration and share some best practices with your colleagues. The most important practice is to run the test suite on your machine before pushing changes on the master branch. In fact, if a developer pushes a red test suite on the master branch, our deploy pipelines becomes red and we are not able to deliver features. This is so annoying and sometimes it could be very harmful for us because we have lots of goals to meet within given deadlines, so we have thought to a punishment for who pushes code without the “Green Light” of the local test suite. the_punishment   This is obviously a joke between colleagues and its value is symbolic, but it reminds us to respect a basic rule to keep improving our productivity. –By Mirko Bonadei, Onebip Tech Team

Direct Carrier Billing offers $13bn revenue opportunity by 2017

This week Juniper Research released a new report ‘Mobile Content Business Models – OTT & Operator Strategy & Forecasts 2013 – 2017’ that revealed some very positive and exciting insights on the potential of direct carrier billing.

Juniper expects content revenue billed via direct carrier billing across smartphones, feature phones and tablets to reach $13.1 billion in 2017, increasing at an average of 41.4% over the forecast period.

In 2012 alone content revenue from direct carrier billing exceeded  $2.3 billion mainly via smartphones. This is no surprise for the industry when we know that carrier billing provides a better user experience for mobile phone and unbanked users and on top of that the increase in smartphone shipments to retailers worldwide (IDC: 717 million shipments worldwide in 2012) has definitely helped to drive this success.

The report also revealed that carrier billing positively impacts conversion rates and average transaction values.  Quoting Juniper’s press release: “Storefronts which have already integrated carrier billing solutions have seen a 5-6 x increase in conversion rates compared with credit card billing, together with an uplift in average transaction values.”

What do you think of Juniper’s latest report?  Have you integrated carrier billing and seen similar results?  Share your thoughts with us (Comments below)
